Hawker food prices rose by 6.1% in 2023, but cost pressure easing

SINGAPORE - Hawker food prices rose by 6.1 per cent in 2023, the highest since 2008, a new study by the Singapore Department of Statistics (SingStat) found.
This means the average cost of a plate of chicken rice in 2023 was $4.15, up from $3.40 in 2019, while that of a bowl of mee rebus went up from $3.26 to $3.79 in the same time period.

With the enforcement of returning trays, the payment to the cleaners should be reviewed and reduced. They need much fewer staff now. This cost saving will help the hawkers. The 6.1% is bs anyway. More like 20% to 40%. My fav ckt has gone from $3 to $4. At AMK hub, it's $5! That's 25% to 66%. Just check the kopi prices and you will also see that it's at least 15% increase.
