He Reflects On His Journey From Fame To Health Battle Through AI Song
Local veteran actor Chew Chor Meng is taking a walk down memory lane — with a little help from AI.
The 57-year-old recently took to Instagram to share an AI-generated song titled '谢幕之后' (‘After the Curtain Falls’), created by a friend.
The track traces his 36-year journey in showbiz, from his early days finding his footing to his rise to fame and the personal and professional ups and downs that followed.
“A friend created this with AI, it sounds great,” Chor Meng wrote.
The post quickly gained traction, racking up over 700 likes and more than 14,000 views within a day.
The lyrics spotlight key milestones in his career. One line, “plucking the stars on the talent stage,” nods to his big break after winning Star Search in 1990.
He went on to become a familiar face on local TV in the ’90s, starring in popular dramas like Don’t Worry Be Happy (1996-2002) and Wok Of Life (1999).
His talent also earned him critical acclaim. In 2000, he clinched Best Actor at the Star Awards for his role in Hainan Kopi Tales.
That same year, he married his married his wife Deon Tan. The couple have two daughters, Cheyenne, 24, and Chloe, 22.
A fan favourite through the years, Chor Meng was named one of the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artistes for 10 consecutive years starting from 1994, before receiving the All-Time Favourite Artiste award in 2004.
The song doesn’t shy away from the tougher chapters either.
At the height of his career, Chor Meng was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy, also known as Kennedy’s Disease, a condition that gradually affected his mobility. He later pivoted into the F&B industry while continuing to act.
In 2019, he was honoured with the Special Achievement Award at the Star Awards.
