You'd think gig-goers would jump at any opportunity to catch something their idols throw off stage during a concert, whether it's a jacket, a prop or even a towel. But as it turns out, some fans definitely draw the line somewhere.

Gary Chaw, 46, recently performed a show in China, but it wasn't his singing that night that went viral.

Like many performers, the Malaysian-born singer reached for a towel after powering through a few high-energy sets.

But in a clip that's since gotten everyone talking, he appeared to wipe his armpits with the towel, before flashing a smile, holding the towel up triumphantly, and tossing it into the crowd.

The crowd instantly erupted into screams. No, not out of excitement. According to those at the concert, they were shrieks of horror.

The moment has been hilariously dubbed "the most fragrant fan service in history" by netizens, and it didn't take long for the comments to start rolling in.

While some found the whole thing hilarious, others were completely put off by the gesture, calling it "too much" and wondering whether the person who caught the towel would even want to bring it home.

"Throwing merch at concerts is fine, but not this," one netizen wrote.

However, some felt the moment may have been exaggerated, arguing that he might not have actually made contact with his armpits and was simply teasing fans. Others suggested he may have “only wiped around his chest”, and that the "wiping" was just part of the interaction.

Throwing towels into the crowd isn’t exactly unheard of when it comes to concert fan service. Some netizens even pointed out that Korean star Rain has done this before.

But many felt Rain’s version was more for show and, quite obviously, didn’t involve actual contact, while Gary’s gesture came across as a lot more direct.

Maybe, some fan service are best experienced from a distance, and some things better left... in the dirty laundry pile?
