Holgado in Malaysia for FIFA appeal process

PETALING JAYA: Mixed heritage striker Rodrigo Holgado has arrived in Kuala Lumpur to help resolve the documentation issue that led to his one-year FIFA ban.

According to Colombian media, it was learnt that the 30-year-old América de Cali forward, who was born and raised in Argentina, travelled with his agent to meet Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) officials and assist in the appeal process.

FIFA last Friday fined FAM 350,000 Swiss francs (RM1.8mil) and banned seven players — Facundo Garces, Jon Irazabal, Holgado, Imanol Machuca, Hector Hevel, Joao Figueiredo and Gabriel Palmero — for 12 months over irregular registration documents used during Malaysia’s Asian Cup qualifiers against Vietnam in June.

Holgado, who played two games for Malaysia and scored a goal in the 4-0 win against Vietnam, hopes the issue can be settled quickly.
