SHAH ALAM: The National Cancer Society Malaysia (Makna) has praised a charity run organised by Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) students for raising cancer awareness, generating funds, and fostering public engagement through youth-led efforts.

The event, HopeTrack: Run & Give, United for Cancer, took place on June 14 at Laman Budaya, Taman Tasik Shah Alam, drawing 113 participants for a 4km run in solidarity with cancer patients and survivors.

Organised by Semester 5 students of the Bachelor of Communications (Hons.) in Communication Management and Policy programme, the initiative blended physical activity, education, and fundraising to promote healthy living and civic responsibility.

A total of RM1,200 was raised and donated to Makna to support underprivileged patients through medical treatment, equipment provision, and health screening services.

Makna said that such initiatives aligned with its mission to expand public outreach and improve cancer education — particularly when strengthened by digital platforms and community participation.

Project leader Nurul Nadirah expressed pride in the team's accomplishments despite the obstacles encountered during planning and execution.

"At first, it seemed impossible. But with unwavering determination and collective effort, we turned this vision into reality — leaving a meaningful impact on participants and the wider community," she said.

Held in conjunction with Cancer Survivor Month, HopeTrack also served as a tribute to individuals who had overcome cancer, while highlighting the vital role of youth in driving positive change within society.
