Hosts Denmark down Thailand to reach semis at home

PETALING JAYA: Roared on by a packed home crowd, Denmark powered into the Thomas Cup semi-finals after beating Thailand in Horsens.

The hosts gave an impressive show to beat Thailand 3-1 in the quarter-finals at Forum Horsens on Friday (May 1). 

Denmark, who won the 2016 edition in Kunshan, will meet 11-time winners China in the semi-finals on May 2 (12 midnight Malaysian time).

World No. 3 Anders Antonsens put the hosts ahead with a hard-fought 80-minute battle against 2026 Malaysian Open champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn to win  21-16, 11-21, 21-18. 

Doubles pair Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen, arnked 10th in the world, then made it 2-0 for the Danes after coming from behind to beat Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Pakkapon Teeraratsakul 15-21, 21-5, 21-17 in 56 minutes. 

Thailand gave themselves a point thanks to Panitchaphon Teeraratsakul, who beat Magnus Johannesen 21-17, 21-12. 

The Danish team then wrapped things up  with scratch pair Mathias Christiansen-Daniel Lundgaard winning 21-13, 21-17 over Chaloempon Charoenkitamorn-Warrapol Thongsa-nga.
