How Kate Hudson Played the "Long Game" When Navigating Her Blended Family
Kate Hudson was setting her family up for success.
The Running Point star—who shares Ryder, 21, with ex-husband Chris Robinson, Bingham, 13, with Matt Bellamy, and Rani Rose, 6, with fiancé Danny Fujikawa—recently detailed her commitment to making her blended family work, admitting she had to make sacrifices when it came to her work and life as a mother while creating “one unit” as she raised her children.
"I have three kids and I have three different dads, and all of them tour, and I made a very conscious decision to do things that didn't take me away from my kids for too long, on top of trying to diversify," Kate, 46, said at the Newport Beach TV Fest via People, June 5. "I like to play the long game and just do different things, so for me it was like I wasn't getting the roles that I wanted to be playing.”
She continued, “The ones that I did, I would make some hard decisions and if it took me away for too long, I just couldn't do it because I had to be with my kids and I wanted to make sure that I was the center of my kids' universe and that we had one unit."
Kate, 46, previously spoke about the relationship she has with the fathers of her children and how they have mastered the art of coparenting.
"It might not look traditional from the outside, but on the inside, I feel like we're killing it," the How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days star told the Sunday Times in a 2022 interview. "The unit that I've created with three children with three different fathers is a seriously strong unit, and it's ours."
And still, while Kate rarely catches a moment with all three of her children on camera, she has her hands full with her adorable mini-me Rani. In an Instagram video shared by Kate in May, Rani took center stage as she adorably lip synced Kate’s iconic line from her 2002 film Almost Famous.
"I always tell the girls never take it seriously," Rani mouthed as she sported a bohemian chic outfit identical to that of her mom’s, who stood behind her with a glass of wine in the video. "If you never take it seriously you never get hurt, if you never get hurt you always have fun.”
As it turns out, Little Rani is not only her mother’s mini-me, but also her stylist. As the “Love Ain’t Easy” singer recenlty admitted, her youngest who needs to give her seal of approval when it comes to Kate’s red carpet looks.
“My son is going to be 21 in two days, so I don’t know where he is,” Kate told Entertainment Tonight in January. “My other one is 13, so he’s locked himself in his bedroom. So, it really is Rani, who is picking apart everything and making sure I wore the right necklace.”
