How People Are Coping With Singapore’s Sweltering Weather Right Now

With temperatures reaching 35°C and humidity levels hovering around 80 per cent, there's no denying that Singapore has been experiencing some seriously hot and humid days lately.

The sweltering weather has left many of us feeling sticky, restless and, at times, reluctant to step outside at all. So much so that some Singaporeans have taken to the internet to vent their frustrations about the seemingly unbearable heat.

"Google says it's 31°C but feels like 38°C. It's the first time I've ever felt this hot," wrote one Redditor, who also wondered whether temperatures would continue to rise with the onset of El Niño.

Enter fellow Singaporeans who soon joined the discussion, sharing not only their frustrations about the heat but also the tricks they use to keep cool.

While some who previously slept without air-conditioning admitted that they've had to switch it on at night to stay comfortable, others have resorted to showering multiple times a day. One netizen even lamented that they were "scared to see the water bill" at the end of the month.

"I showered four times instead of three today," wrote one netizen. Another said they try not to shower too often for fear of drying out their skin, but have found themselves doing so more frequently just to stay comfortable.

Not everyone was convinced by this method, however, with one quipping: "There's no use because you find yourself sweating again just five minutes after showering."

A number of Singaporeans complained that they would be drenched in sweat just from walking to the office, while others described the recent temperatures as "insane".

Sadly, those with skin conditions such as eczema have also suffered the negative effects of the humidity.

To beat the heat, some said they've invested in high-powered fans for their homes, portable fans for when they're on the go, and always make sure to bring a bottle of cold water whenever they head out.

Others shared that they never leave home without cooling wipes, while one netizen said they were even considering buying cooling pads and cooling clothing to survive this hot season.

“I use snake powder. It's the only thing that works for my heat rash,” another commented, referring to the old-school Snake Brand Prickly Heat Cooling Powder which has been used here for generations.

"Now I need to walk with an umbrella during late afternoon because I feel I will get roasted in the sun," added another.

What are your go-to tips for surviving this hot spell?
