She can act — her Annabelle-like chuckle in Emerald Hill still haunts us at night — but can Chantalle Ng host?

The 30-year-old Mediacorp actress will be making her hosting debut at the Star Awards this Sunday (Jul 6).

Not on the red carpet or the backstage live segment, but for the main ceremony, along with 16-time Star Awards host Guo Liang, 54.

There's been a lot of buzz about Chantalle anchoring local showbiz's biggest night.  

Some believe Chantalle, who's in the running for the Best Actress and Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes awards, deserves a go at something new as "there is a first time for everything".

"I give her a thumbs up for being willing to take on the challenge. She did for Anna [in Emerald Hill], and she would do her best as a host too," wrote a netizen.

People are also confident that the very seasoned Guo Liang would help her out in areas that she might find lacking.

Then there are those who are concerned if these shoes are just too big for her to fill.

After all, it is hard to ignore the fact that the actress doesn't have any hosting experience, especially for something as large-scale as the Star Awards.

"If they want to groom her in this area, they should start from small variety shows first," argued one netizen.

One netizen, however, noted that the surprising choice of host has served as a "brilliant publicity stunt". "Those who support [her] as well as those who want to see her fail will all be tuning in regardless," added the netizen.  

8days.sg reached out to Chantalle to find out how she feels about the hosting gig though we did not receive a response as of press time.

Her manager did reply, saying: "Actually we are into the rehearsal phase already so best if she can fully focus on it before the live show to be in the best condition."

The Walk Of Fame will be from 5pm - 6.30pm, on mewatch, Ch 8, Ch U, and Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel on the same day.

It will be followed by the Star Awards 2025 Live Show from 7pm - 10pm on mewatch, Ch 8, Ch U, and Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel.

The night will end off with the Post-Party from 10pm – 1030pm on mewatch, Ch U, and Mediacorp Entertainment YouTube Channel.
