How the ‘God Forbid’ TikTok Trend Became a Digital Clapback for Gen Z Girls

When I was a teen, feeling self-conscious about, well, everything was just par for the course. We may not have called things “cringe” or “ick” in the early 2000s, but we definitely felt the same awkward feelings — and were criticized for them just the same as girls are now. Despite that teens girls are still judged for everything they do or don’t do (see the Barbie movie’s famous monologue if you don’t know what I mean), they have now found a safe way to clap back at the haters: through TikTok. The “God forbid” TikTok trend is a way for Gen Z girls to stand up against those who are mean to them, and I am obsessed with it!
