There's a very special year-end gift coming for us on December 21. After chasing each other through the sky for the better part of two decades, Jupiter and Saturn will finally cross paths on the day of the winter solstice. You won't even need a telescope to witness this rare celestial rendezvous – the two planets will appear to form a bright, elongated star visible to the naked eye.
