Today (August 24) is Ukraine Independence Day – observed annually ever since the country declared independence from Russia in 1991.

This year marks 31 years of Ukrainian independece – and surely it will feel particularly poignant in 2022, as the country remains under siege from Russia, as it has been for exactly six months today.
