Avatr, a China-based electric vehicle brand backed by Changan Automobile, CATL, and Huawei, began pre-sales in China on July 17 for the 07L sport utility vehicle with Huawei’s Qiankun Intelligent Driving Advanced Driving System (ADS) 5.

Prices start at 249,900 yuan (US$37,000) for the Max+ battery-electric version and 279,900 yuan (US$41,000) for the Ultra three-motor battery-electric version.

The 07L is a long-wheelbase version of the Avatr 07. Avatr said all versions come standard with Huawei’s 896-line dual optical-path image-grade LiDAR and 27 sensors to support driver assistance on urban roads, highways, and in parking.

Founded in 2018, Avatr counts Changan Automobile and CATL as its largest and second-largest shareholders, while Huawei serves as a strategic partner supplying driver-assistance software and smart cockpit systems.

The launch comes as Huawei said Qiankun-equipped models are expected to exceed 80 by the end of 2026, and as Chinese regulators have banned terms such as “smart driving” and “autonomous driving” in ads for driver-assistance features.

Huawei said Qiankun Intelligent Driving ADS had logged more than 12.9 billion km. It also said safe assisted-driving mileage was 4.92x the Chinese average, and mileage in human-driving mode was 3.11x the Chinese average. Both figures are estimates.
