Hurting economically, Wang Kelian residents urge govt to beef up border security but reopen trade zone

PADANG BESAR, Nov 12 — Local residents are urging the government to reopen the free-flow zone at the Malaysia-Thailand border in Wang Kelian to boost socio-economic activities in the area.
Kampung Wang Kelian Village Development and Security Committee chairman Md Razak Daud said the free-flow zone had been closed since April 1, 2015, after the discovery of 139 mass graves of human trafficking victims in the area.
