Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah reminds former Arsenal striker Ian Wright of Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk.Chalobah starred in the Blues’ opening weekend victory over Crystal Palace in which he scored the third goal in a 3-0 victory over their London rivals.Marcos Alonso and Christian Pulisic bagged the first two goals before Chalobah was left in tears following his fine second-half strike from distance.Premier League XI: Champion-slayers like Henry and RooneyVirgil van Dijk has helped change Liverpool’s fortunes in recent seasons and Wright has said that Chalobah “reminded” him of the Dutchman against Villarreal in the European Super Cup final.“Watching him against Arsenal [in pre-season] I was thinking, wow, maybe its just a pre-season friendly he looks good. I watched him against Villarreal [in the Super Cup] and I thought, my god hes really good,” Wright said on Ringer FCs Wrightys House podcast.“You know what he reminded me of, not the same player, not the same stature, but the way Virgil Van Dijk when he played for Celtic, people said hes just taking liberties just because hes good and not in the same standard [as others].“I watched him play for Ipswich a couple of times where he played in that vain where you think Id like to see him against better quality.“Anything that Mateta or Zaha did he [Chalobah] dealt with it, but then his progression with the ball, getting forward with the ball, his tackling, the goal, the emotion.“The emotion when you score a goal when you know its significant, the only one I can think of myself is coming on in that cup final against Manchester United and when I scored that goal I instantly burst into tears because the realisation of what just happened it hit me.”When asked about Chalobah’s performance against Crystal Palace, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel said: Fantastic. He gets all the praise and its well deserved. Two excellent matches.“He played against Arsenal and Tottenham in friendlies, then 120 minutes on Wednesday, then 90 today and scores. Its fantastic these things happen in sports. A perfect day for him.We will never stop doing so [playing youngsters]. Chalobah plays alongside Reece James and Mason Mount. This is how it has to be.
