Transforming the room where your bed resides into an absolute sanctuary doesn't require a whole bunch of complicated projects or money. There are tons of little hacks and upgrades you can pull off to make your bedroom look *and* feel nicer, from touching up your scratched-up headboard with a furniture marker to swapping your lamp's bulb for a smart-enabled one you can turn off from your phone after you've snuggled under your covers. You can do these!

1. Swap your overhead or table lamp bulbs for a pair of LED stained glass bulbs if you wanna dial the whimsy up to 1,000. What a lovely alternative for a plain white box if you don't want to bother painting!

2. Add a non-overhead light source that is THE moment like this glossy glass lamp, a bendy lamp, or even a traditional shade with a non-traditional base. You can't remove that unsightly boob light but you *can* express some of your personal taste through a fun table lamp!

3. Or if you want to zhuzh up a boring lamp shade, drape a dramatic necklace on it like I did for mine or add a bunch of brooches to a plain shade like one TikToker did.

I grabbed this necklace at an antique shop in Palm Springs from a decommissioned ~secret~ society without plans on how to use it, but it found a home on this neutral lampshade!

If you love the brooches idea but don't have any lying around, here's a pack of 16 from Amazon for $23.99. If your lampshade is flat, this could work with enamel pins, though know that once you use this trick there's really no going back with that holey lampshade. 

4. Hang decorative tassels from lampshades, furniture pulls, doorknobs, wherever you could use a little jazzing up on the cheap.

5. There are tons of ways to bring some character to your walls without painting, like putting up lighted curtains you can layer with some sheer curtains for an ethereal look.

6. Frame non-art things as pieces of artwork, like a coaster from your favorite restaraunt, your expired passport, or even a ticket from something special!

This beaut is a tiny leather book I bought at a flea market maybe a decade ago of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner that I thought was so cool, but I didn't really have any use for. So I framed it a few years ago and added it to my eclectic gallery wall above my couch. It isn't exactly evenly spaced in the frame, but I think that just adds to the charm? I just got a new passport and plan on framing my old one to an open page with the most stamps once I find a frame I like. 7. Install wall art with Command strips made specifically for the task. This version is made to hold up to 16 pounds, and is easy to peel off the wall when it's time to move or you want to rearrange a gallery wall.

I've used these for most of my wall art, and when you (as the reviewer mentions) wait for the Command strip to adhere to the wall per the directions, it really can hold! Also, make sure to follow the directions on *where* to place the strips when it comes to whatever you're hanging up, because that matters a lot too. Like with all wall art installation, I rec using a level to make sure your art is even, because unlike with a nail, it's harder to tilt and adjust once the strip is in place.

11. Get a night-light for your bed that'll make you feel like you're staying at a fancy hotel as you step around that pile of clothes that fell off "the chair" in the middle of the night.

12. And get more creative with some rechargeable motion sensor under-cabinet lights you can place *just* where you want to illuminate things in places like under your closet, desk, or even by your door so you can scurry off to the bathroom at 3 a.m.

13. Treat light switches like an artistic op with a refined-looking frame. (This is an easy swap as long as you didn't get the landlord special where they painted *over* the light switch and outlet plates.)
