Inside serial killer Todd Kohlhepp's chilling Amazon product reviews
A two-part documentary airing on Channel 4 explores the chilling case of a serial killer who left clues about his crimes in Amazon product reviews.
Businessman Todd Kohlhepp left a string of 140 eerie reviews on the online shopping site which detailed terrifying uses for items such as padlocks and chainsaws between 2014 and 2016.
He was arrested in 2016 after a woman was found chained up in a shipping container at his South Carolina property following a tip-off. She had been kept imprisoned there for two months and claimed her boyfriend had been killed in front of her. His body was later found at Kohlhepp's home, along with the remains of a married couple.
He was handed seven consecutive life sentences (

In 2017, Kohlhepp, a property agent, pleaded guilty to seven murders committed over the course of 13 years, including four that occurred in 2003 at a motorbike shop. He narrowly avoided the death penalty and was sentenced to seven consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole.
An Amazon account named 'me' that linked to a wishlist belonging to someone identifying as Todd Kohlhepp provided a 'digital breadcrumb trail' for investigators. Reviews connected to the profile detailed chilling acts involving the items and earned him the moniker of the Amazon Review Killer.
So what exactly did he write in those reviews? In one review of a Husqvarna 20-inch chainsaw posted in September 2014, the killer offered up a five-star review, penning: "Works excellent. Getting the neighbor to stand still while you chase him with it is hard enough without having a easy to use chainsaw [sic]."
The reviews, often five stars, detailed horrific crimes (

In his review of a Master Padlock, again from September 2014, he referenced holding people captive in a shipping container. Offering five-stars, he continued: "Solid locks. Have five of them on a shipping container. Won't stop them... but sure will slow them down til they are too old to care."
In one brazen review of a folding shovel, Kohlhepp declared it was perfect for when you "have to hide the bodies". The five-star review of the SOG Entrenching Tool read: "Keep in the car for when you have to hide the bodies and you left the full size shovel at home."
A year later, he reviewed a black gripping tool which he described simply as "blacker than my soul and priced right," alongside another five star rating. Meanwhile while reviewing a knife he stated: "Haven't stabbed anyone yet," before adding, "When I do it will be with a quality tool like this."
The Amazon Review Killer airs on Channel 4 at 10pm on January 6 and is available to stream on 4OD immediately after the broadcast
