KEPALA BATAS: Police have initiated an investigation into a video where a man is seen raising an upside-down Malaysian flag.

The footage is believed to have been recorded in Kepala Batas. It prompted an individual to lodge a report at the Kepala Batas police station at about 12.30pm on Saturday (Aug 9).

North Seberang Perai OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Abd Rahman said initial investigations are underway, with statements taken from the complainant and suspects involved.

"The case is being investigated under Section 5 of the Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1963, Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998," he said in a statement on Saturday.

ACP Anuar urged the public not to sensationalise the matter in a way that could disturb public order while the probe is ongoing.

He said anyone with information on the incident should contact investigating officer Insp Safwan Hashim at 04-576 2222 (ext. 2275) or the nearest police station.

The 21-second video shows a man waving the Jalur Gemilang, which is mounted upside down on a metal pole, while another man films the act.
