MELAKA: Motorists from neighbouring countries who fail to settle their Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) summonses will be automatically blacklisted by the Road Transport Department’s (JPJ) system from July 1, according to Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli.

The JPJ director-general stated that the blacklist will also apply to Singapore-registered vehicles via data obtained from the Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) records.

"We will blacklist foreign vehicles based on the VEP and other entry records," he said after leading an inspection of express buses at the Melaka Sentral Bus Complex on Tuesday (July 1) to check compliance with the mandatory seat belt regulation for passengers.

Aedy Fadly mentioned that motorists issued with AWAS summonses will be given a 60-day grace period from July 1 to settle the fines.

"Those who fail to do so within the stipulated period will be blacklisted automatically by the department’s system," he said.

Aedy Fadly also announced that the JPJ’s special flat-rate compound payment offer of RM150, initially scheduled to end on June 30, has been extended until the end of this year.

The offer applies to three types of offences involving three categories of JPJ summonses: the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) summons (53A), Notice 114 (investigation interview notice), and Notice 115 (affixed summons notice).

Aedy Fadly said 412,256 AWAS summonses have been paid, while 1,542,135 are still unpaid.

He noted that for Notice 114, 24,709 summonses have been cleared, while 311,866 remain unsettled.

"As for Notice 115, 5,905 summonses have been settled, with 171,321 still outstanding. The public is encouraged to take advantage of this extended offer by settling their outstanding summonses before the offer period ends on December 31," he added.
