Jana Kramer is setting the record straight.

Nearly six months after her husband Allan Russell told her that he would never “allow” her to film an intimate scene as an actress, the One Tree Hill alum defended the soccer coach against the people who she says “ripped him apart” for his comments.

“He was joking,” Jana told E! News in an exclusive interview. “There's a conversation with every [job] we take. It's the same thing with his line of work.”

She added, “That's what marriage is—it's a conversation. It's not like, ‘No, you cannot do this.’ I don't think that’s healthy.”

Plus, the Whine Down podcast host—who shares son Roman, 2, with Allan, as well as kids Jolie, 9, and Jace, 6, with ex-husband Mike Caussin—agrees about being intentional on the choices she makes as an actress.

“I’m not going to do something that is wildly taking my clothes off for no reason,” Jana continued. “If it is creatively gonna move the needle and it's important to me for the role, he is so supportive.”

In fact, Jana attributes much of her recent success in movies like Kidnapped by a Killer: The Heather Robinson Story—premiering June 7 at 8 p.m. ET on Lifetime—to the former soccer player.

“I do owe a lot of it to my husband,” she explained. “In the past I wouldn't have focused so much on the work because I was so worried about, ‘OK, what woman is he cheating on me with?’ I wasn't able to truly settle and be confident.” 

But Allan has helped Jana move beyond the insecurities formed from her past relationships, with her emphasizing that he makes her feel “not only supported, but loved and like I can do my work.”

Noting a joke from Allan, she added, “He's like, ‘I'm your lucky charm.’ I'm like, ‘No, you are!’ It's been great.”

The family celebrated the holiday in The Great Lakes State.

"You’ve got a friend in us," the star wrote while channeling Toy Story for Halloween 2022. "Love, little Bo Peep, buzz, Jessie and Woody."

Jolie started second grade in 2023, sharing that she wants to be an actress and singer like her mom.

"Someone is excited for their first day of school and someone is not," Jana joked. "2nd grade and the last year of preschool here they come!"

"Celebrated Christmas morning with the kiddos today," she wrote on Dec. 26, 2022. "It was still the same joy even on a different day…and it even snowed just like a true Christmas Day. Pure magic. Thanks to the mommas who told me about this idea." But not all was festive, as she noted, "And a big Shoutout to the grinch for leaving me the flu in my stocking and an ear infection for Jace."

Jana was feeling "blessed" on New Year's Eve 2022. "Happy New Years from me and my babies!" she wrote.

Jana and Jolie had a mother-daughter boating trip in July 2023.

The actress captioned the shot, "Best mommy daughter time."

The "I Got the Boy" singer gave a glimpse into "life lately" in June 2023, featuring Jolie enjoying a sweet summer treat.

Her son Jace was all smiles after removing his Spider-Man face paint while bearing a "Brotherhood" T-shirt.
