Jeremy Paxman was pictured using a cane as he attended the 49th annual Broadcasting Press Guild awards on Friday night.

The 72-year-old Newsnight and University Challenge presenter, who announced in May 2021 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, was recognised for his outstanding contribution to broadcasting at the glitzy event at the Royal Horseguards Hotel in London

Looking smart in a dark blue suit and red tie, Paxman was seen walking with a black cane in his right hand for extra support.

During the ceremony, he was honoured with the Harvey Lee Award to celebrate his impressive five-decade career in the broadcasting business.

Speaking about awarding Paxman with the prize, the BPG’s chairman Grant Tucker said that the organisation holds the treasured star ‘in very high esteem’ for his broadcasting record ‘which has meant remarkable longevity, a unique authenticity and a fierce desire to hold some people’s feet to the fire.’
