Johor bursts with Kidslympic cheer
JOHOR BARU: The Johor leg of the Kidslympic Malaysia Run turned out to be another hit.
Recently, over 500 participants, including 150 kids, turned the heart of Johor Baru into a vibrant carnival colour, cheer and energy with a hype of activities.
Organised by Kidslympic Malaysia, in collaboration with the city council, and supported by Youth and Sports Ministry and Ministry of Education Malaysia, the Johor edition brought families together through sports and healthy living.
The Johor edition is the second stop of the Kidslympic Malaysia Run series, following the resounding success of the Kuala Lumpur run in June, with upcoming runs scheduled in Penang on Sept 14 and Selangor on Sept 28.
The series will culminate in the grand finale at Stadium Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur this October, as part of Hari Sukan Negara celebrations.
The Johor Run’s 2.4km parent and child format encouraged parents to walk or jog alongside their children, while the child’s run time was officially recorded using a professional timing chip system.
The event was non-competitive in spirit but professional in execution — designed to instil a sense of achievement in children, while creating a safe, inclusive, and joyful experience for all.
"The Kidslympic Run is not just a race — it’s a moment where parents and children connect in a way that is active, fun, and memorable. Johor’s turnout shows that families are ready to embrace sports as a way of life,” said Wong Kang Woon, Co-Founder of Kidslympic Malaysia.
“It’s so rare to see such a well-organised event just for kids and parents. My daughter
trained for weeks and today she proudly crossed the finish line. That’s priceless,” shared
Steven Gan, one of the runners.
The Kidslympic Malaysia Games 2025, the nation’s multi-sport Games exclusively for
children, is expected to gather over 1,500 young athletes nationwide to compete in
Olympic-style disciplines at PNB Merdeka Ventures Stadium from Oct 10-13 in Kuala Lumpur.
The sports are athletics, swimming, 3x3 basketball, volleyball, football,
gymnastics and obstacle race.
The inaugural Kidslympic Malaysia was successfully held in December 2024, featuring more than 800 children participating across five sports - baseball, softball, volleyball, gymnastics and modern pentathlon.
