Joint Advisory On Rise In Government Official Impersonation Scam Variant Featuring Impersonation Of Banks

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) and Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) would like to alert members of the public to a recent rise in Government Official Impersonation Scams featuring the impersonation of banks and government officials. In September 2024, there have been at least 100 cases reported, with total losses amounting to at least $6.7 million.
In this variant, the victim would first receive an unsolicited call from a scammer impersonating a bank officer, typically from DBS, OCBC, UOB or Standard Chartered Bank. The scammer would inform the victim that a credit card has been issued under the victim’s name, or that there were suspicious or fraudulent transactions detected in the victim’s bank account, and would ask the victim to confirm these financial transactions.

In this scam fiasco which nobody wishes that it would happen, the police catch thief has turned the tables to become Thief catches the lawmakers. It is the greatest joke in the world and the saddest thing for those innocents who had been scammed.
