Liverpool’s incoming new sporting director Julian Ward will be keeping tabs on Randal Kolo Muani in the forthcoming months, having reportedly seen the Reds miss out on his January signing. The French striker has attracted attention this season through his vibrant displays in Ligue 1. The 23-year-old has bagged nine goals and three assists in the current campaign, leading to regular links with Liverpool over the past month.Indeed, he was one name under consideration for Liverpool in January as they weighed up their options. As it was, Liverpool managed to secure No 1 target Luis Diaz on a big-money move. The Colombian is due to arrive on Merseyside on Thursday, having finalised his signing over the weekend. And while Liverpool also narrowly ran out of time to secure the signing of Fabio Carvalho, he’s another they will pursue in the summer. That said, Muani was also a player of interest for the Reds. Now a report claims that the Reds held talks over a potential swoop for Muani. As per Frankfurter Rundschau, the Reds ‘dealt more or less intensively’ with the striker, who was available to sign a pre-contract agreement. And while an offer wasn’t forthcoming, departing sporting director Michael Edwards is charging his successor Ward with keeping tabs on the star. However, Liverpool were not the only side who held talks over a deal. Indeed, they claim Muani’s camp also held discussions with Tottenham director Fabio Paratici over a prospective move to north London.Randal Kolo Muani agrees Frankfurt moveUltimately though, the striker agreed a deal to move to Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of the season. As per Bild, the Bundesliga side have secured the France U21s striker down to a five-year deal from July 1.Indeed, the German paper claims Frankfurt won the day with their general manager Ben Manga proceeding with talks some 18 months ago.And Muani’s move was rubberstamped after securing him on a deal, made easier by his free transfer. The report claims though that Muani will remain a player of interest to the Reds. As such, Ward and his team will continue monitoring the striker with regards a future move. How Liverpool beat Tottenham to Luis DiazDaniel Levy did everything he could to sign Luis Diaz for Tottenham Hotspur this January, but a report has revealed why Liverpool beat them to the transfer.According to The Athletic, Tottenham found agreements with both Diaz and his former club Porto to sign him. That came before he headed off for international duty, though, after which there was a twist. While Diaz was away, one of his Colombian agents effectively vetoed the move. That was because Porto gave Jorge Mendes a mandate to oversee the Spurs switch; Diazs representative objected.Meanwhile, Liverpool who were originally lining up Diaz for the summer took their chance to swoop in. They did not use Mendes as an intermediary.Upon Diazs arrival at Anfield, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp explained how he would only sign players in January if they are ones who the club would be interested in during the summer and Diaz fit in with that strategy.Klopps presence, incidentally, was a factor in convincing Diaz to join Liverpool. Furthermore, the fact they have Champions League football and Tottenham do not helped. But Diaz had also been enthusiastic about Tottenhams interest, the report claims. In turn, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is supposedly raging that the deal fell through.Tottenham had signed paperwork over a 45m plus 15m deal with Porto. In the end, though, it was Liverpool who took him for reportedly the same figures.READ MORE: Liverpool stars fate sealed, as Luis Diaz transfer forces Klopp to trim Premier League squad
