Junya Ito left out of Japan squad amid sexual assault claim

TOKYO – Japan coach Hajime Moriyasu said on March 14 he wanted to “protect” Junya Ito by leaving him out of his squad to face North Korea in home and away World Cup qualifiers the next two weeks.
The winger left the Asian Cup in Qatar in February after it emerged that he was under investigation by the Japanese police over sexual assault allegations in Osaka in 2023.
