Our country may be celebrating its 60th year of independence this year but you'd be alarmed how many people still confuse us with Malaysia.

In a recent video on Douyin, Chinese content creator Jietouerlang conducted a street interview asking Chinese locals if they know what the capital of Singapore is.

Surprisingly, most of them gave the same wrong answer.

At least five ladies exclaimed confidently: "Kuala Lumpur!" There was a handful who hesitated before giving the same answer.

Meanwhile, one candidly answered: "I don't know, my teacher didn't teach me this in school" while another asked: "Does Singapore even have capital?"

In case you're wondering, yes, we do have a capital. And no, it's not Orchard Road. Singapore's capital is just "Singapore", which is what makes it a city-state.

Netizens too were baffled by the responses.

"They are completely ignorant about the world. This is terrifying," said one. Another quipped: "These people have no general knowledge at all."

Meanwhile, a netizen noted: "This is why education is so important".

Though a viewer also suggested that "Singaporeans will be mad after seeing this video", our locals were surprisingly chill about it in the comments section.

Some even joked that we can consider "Yishun" or "Bugis Street" as our capital too.
