Earlier this week, an image of an apparent Singaporean vehicle owner filling up his vehicle, as well as a jerry can, with RON95 petrol at a Johor Bahru petrol station had gone viral online.

Following this, the Johor branch of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) launched an investigation into this matter.

Now, KPDN Johor has updates on their investigation

Taking to their Facebook page, KPDN Johor showcased a video of an enforcement team visiting the petrol station in question that had since filed a case action investigation paper under the Supply Control Act 1961.

They wrote, “On August 4 (Monday), 2025, a team of KPDN Johor enforcement officers inspected the petrol station by examining CCTV footage, obtained the purchase receipt of the driver of the vehicle, as well as met with the petrol station owner to give them a stern warning to always be vigilant to ensure that this incident does not happen again.”

“Case action has been taken and an investigation paper has been opened under the Supply Control Act 1961.”

Should the parties involved be found guilty, here’s how they’ll be punished:

For the individual in question, if convicted, he could face a fine not exceeding RM1,000,000 or up to three years in jail, or both. If this is his second offence or more, a fine not exceeding RM3,000,000 or up to five years in prison, or both may be imposed.

The company involved, on the other hand, can face a fine of not more than RM2,000,000. However, if this is their second offence or more, they’ll face a fine not exceeding RM5,000,000.

They also took the time to remind petrol station operators that they are responsible for disallowing foreign-registered vehicles from purchasing RON95 petrol.
