On June 19, an elderly man in Kelantan was beaten with a metal baton by a teenager, allegedly over a grudge. The victim had reportedly reprimanded the suspect several times for riding his motorcycle recklessly around the village.

The victim was struck in the face with the metal baton, causing him to collapse and lose consciousness. He later died from his injuries.

The teen was identified as an OKU

The teenager, who is an intellectually disabled person (OKU), was brought before the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to face a charge of murdering the 60-year-old man, according to Sinar Harian.

The 18-year-old was charged before Magistrate Tun Faez Fikhrie Tun Asrul Saini. However, no plea was recorded.

According to the charge, the accused allegedly murdered Shamsudin Mohamed by the roadside next to a grocery store in Kampung Buluh, Gual Ipoh, at around 6 PM.

“The offence is non-bailable under Malaysian law”

The charge was made under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of no less than 30 years and up to 40 years. If the death penalty is not imposed, the offender may also be whipped not less than 12 times.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Hajar Mazlan, who led the prosecution, did not offer bail as the offence is non-bailable under Malaysian law, while the accused was unrepresented.

The case has been scheduled for mention on September 2 to allow for the submission of chemical and medical reports.
