Is Kelly Clarkson shading her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, or is she trying to tell fans something else about her dating life? The 42-year-old pop star’s “official album visualizer” for “When Christmas Comes Around … Again” on YouTube dropped a hint about where she stands with romance this holiday season.

The image shows four red-and-white stockings hanging over the fireplace, and that’s where things get interesting. There’s a stocking for “Mom” aka Clarkson, one for daughter River, 10, and one for son River, 8 — it’s the fourth stocking that is getting all the buzz right now. It says, “Nope,” which a lot of fans are interpreting as a dig at her ex, but it’s more likely a statement about her dating life.

In November, Clarkson gave insight into why she’s put her romantic pursuits on hold for now. “Both my kids are not [into it and] they constantly bring it up, ‘Please, we don’t want you to be with anybody else,’” she said during a radio interview with KOST 103.5 on Nov. 15. “They’re young, so it’s hard to picture their mom with someone else other than their dad.” It’s not the first time she’s shared that dating insight either.

In March, she admitted to Hoda Kotb that she loved her single-gal era during an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show. “I am really loving not having a man in my life,” she explained. “It’s just too hard, it’s too much.” So, fans have to take the “Since U Been Gone” singer at her word — love is not on her horizon right now.

There is another reason to believe that her “Nope” stocking isn’t about Blackstock even after their contentious divorce. The former duo is reportedly “more amicable now and co-parenting with consideration,” according to a Life & Styleinsider. “They probably won’t be breaking bread, but they can see eye to eye about the kids and are generally pleasant to one another.” It doesn’t feel like a very Clarkson move to be negative about her children’s dad in such a public way, especially since they are finally getting along.

Clarkson might not have romance on her 2025 Bingo card, but sometimes love strikes you at the most unexpected time.
