Kenshi Yonezu & Hikaru Utada unite for ‘Jane Doe’, ending theme of 'Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc'
Two J-pop sensations, one epic collab. Kenshi Yonezu and Hikaru Utada have joined forces for ‘Jane Doe’, the official ending theme for the highly anticipated Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, hitting theatres in the US on 29 October.
Written and composed by Yonezu, ‘Jane Doe’ features vocals from Utada and marks the first-ever musical collaboration between the two Japanese icons. Fans can get a taste of the hauntingly powerful track in the newly dropped teaser video.
Yonezu shared, “I started working on the song without giving too much thought to who would sing it... The moment Utada-san’s voice—melancholic, yet sweeping like a gust of wind—came in over the track, I remember being so moved that I let out a sharp gasp.”
Utada echoed the creative synergy, adding, “Both of us being uncompromising singer-songwriters... I hope everyone can feel the new sides that were brought out in us, as we remained true to ourselves and each other.”
This new release comes on the heels of Yonezu’s announcement of ‘Iris Out’, the official theme song of the film, following his previous global hit ‘Kick Back’, which became the first Japanese-language track to be certified Gold by the RIAA in the US.
Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, produced by MAPPA and distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures, continues the story from the hit anime series. Set after the TV show’s final episode, it follows Denji’s fateful encounter with Reze and promises more of the high-octane action that made Chainsaw Man a global sensation. The film premieres in Japan on 19 September, with a global rollout across 50+ countries to follow.
