KOTA BARU: The Riuh Sokmo! Bersama Celcom programme continues to attract many visitors yesterday.

The carnival has many booths, including a kite workshop that showcases Wau Jala Budi.

It is run by kite maker Mohamad Azeimi Mohd Noor, 43, and his son, Mohamad Daniabbi 13.

Azeimi said he brought his son along as the latter had been interested in making kites since he was 4.

"His favourite kite is Wau Jala," said the father of four from Kedai Lalat.

"The name Wau Jala Budi comes from a leaf in Kedah called the 'budi leaf.

"The tail of the Wau Jala Budi is similar to the 'budi' leaf and the word 'jala' refers to the structure of the tail of the kite.

"But the basic shape and design are inspired by the shape of a woman's body.

"If it is viewed from the back, we can see that the hands of the women are extended, followed by the body, towards the waist and the bottom."

Azeimi said Wau Jala Budi was sold between RM800 and RM2,500, depending on the size and design.

It is organised by the Communications and Multimedia Ministry and MyCreative Ventures in collaboration with Celcom Axiata (Celcom).
