South Korean model Kim Jong Suk, known for his appearance on reality show Skip Dating, died on June 4 at the age of 29. 

Rumours regarding his death began circulating online, with some reports claiming Jong Suk had committed suicide after a fight with his girlfriend.

On June 6, the day of his funeral, Jong Suk's sister took to social media to address the rumours. She wrote: "We are in the middle of the funeral, overwhelmed and heartbroken. But I'm seeing so many baseless and false claims spreading across online communities.”

She stated that she would be filing a report against defamatory posts, and requested articles containing false information be taken down. 

On June 9, hoping to quash the rumours a final time, Jong Suk's sister revealed the real reason behind his death. 

She firmly rubbished claims that Jong Suk committed suicide by jumping off the building his girlfriend stayed at. The same rumours also falsely claimed that Jong Suk had broken into his girlfriend’s house while drunk, causing a ruckus while holding a soju bottle in hand. 

His sister said on that particular day, Jong Suk and his girlfriend had attended separate gatherings with friends. Jong Suk was worried as he was unable to get in contact with his girlfriend. He later made a trip to his girlfriend’s place to check on her, and was accompanied by a friend. 

After finding out that his girlfriend and a few of her friends were fast asleep, Jong Suk stayed on to chat with her other friends. 

The couple later got into a tiff when Jong Suk tried to wake her up. Both parties were agitated, and one of their friends threw a soju bottle onto the ground in order to stop them from fighting. The police were alerted to the incident, but according to Jong Suk’s sister, no one attempted to flee from the scene, and no one was injured. 

Jong Suk’s sister revealed he was under immense stress as he had been scammed by one of his close friends. He had lost all of his savings, and was feeling very down.

Although the fight with his girlfriend was not the main trigger, combined with the pain he felt from the betrayal, ultimately led him to take his own life. 

Jong Suk’s sister also asked the public to respect her late brother and pleaded with netizens to stop spreading groundless rumours.
