Letter of the week: Please be patient when I try to speak Mandarin

As someone who married into a traditional Chinese family 35 years ago, learning Mandarin, especially the four tones, has been quite difficult for me (Singaporeans should learn more languages, not settle for just being bilingual, April 27).
My teacher strongly encouraged me to practise it every day and talk with Singaporeans.

Plug on... Don't be discouraged by the the naysayers! 😉 It's never easy to learn speaking another language, but the only way is to be 'thick skin'.. Practise makes perfect. .

Of course when learning a new language, it's always thru more practise to prefect that language by using it more often in our daily life but refrain from using it during any issues related to official content
