Lil Nas X is so hot, he could melt an iron beam like a stick of butter. He is so hot that, if he were a menu item, he would come with four chili peppers and a Surgeon General’s warning. When Montero Lamar Hill began his 2019, he was 20 years old with a SoundCloud mixtape; the next year, he was the most nominated male artist at the Grammys. He is so hot that, when Yves Saint Laurent Beauty was casting for the launch of a new lipstick in 2022, the company had no choice but an unprecedented one, and LNX became the first male rapper to front a makeup campaign in marketing history.

Just days before crystallizing into Swarovski Choupette at the Met Gala, he made himself available for a short slice of time to talk beauty, hotness, Euphoria vibes, and Pineapple Fanta. This conversation has been edited and condensed for clarity. But not by much!

Allure: This is your second YSL Beauty campaign, and your first was a big deal in that it showed a male celebrity wearing makeup in a fun and cosmetic way. Do you think that boundaries between men and makeup are finally coming down?

Lil Nas X: I think in due time, it'll be a lot better than where it is right now. I think we have a long way to go. 

Allure: What kind of makeup are you wearing lately?

LNX: I'm not a super huge makeup girl, but I like to put some shine or glitter around my eyes. I can't think of a specific product right now, but that's my go-to. It's more of a smear with the finger, like a Euphoria vibe. [I like] a glossy finish over the face, accentuating the lips.

Allure: Do you have a favorite facial feature?

LNX: My favorite feature of my face is probably definitely my lips. They were the parts of my face that I hated the most growing up. And as I grew up into my teen years, I learned more and more to love them and how great it is to have them. I like to keep a shine on my lips. I like to keep them moisturized. Allure: Do you consider yourself to be a hot person?

LNX: Absolutely. I think I realized I was hot right along... No, no, no, no, no. Actually, probably at the very beginning of my fame. And I've always thought I was an attractive person. Well, at least when I started to grow my facial hair and stuff. But really around that time when other people would say it to me.

Allure: Has your relationship to the way you look changed since you've become famous?

LNX: Absolutely. For one, I feel like I am at the absolute peak of my self love right now, in terms of loving how I am, accepting how I look, and also just seeing the beauty in myself. Growing up, I didn't see many people like me being considered beautiful or handsome and whatnot, and able to be in certain spaces and places that I am now. I feel like being here has changed that for me. And hopefully, it's changing it for a lot of young people that are watching me.

Allure: What is the most beautiful thing you can think of?

LNX: The most beautiful thing I can think of? Probably my kittens. I have two, Zephyr and Sonny.

Allure: Who is the most beautiful person that you know of?

LNX: Most beautiful person? Outside of myself, I'd probably go with... Who would I go with? I can't think of anyone at the top of my head. There's a lot of beautiful people out there though.

Allure: How do you smell?

LNX: Well, I'll say this: Whenever someone sees me in person, they just love my smell immediately. I can say that. 

Allure: Do you do any kind of skin care?

LNX: Any kind of skin care? I get this one a lot. Well, I think naturally, my skin is just usually pretty well off. So, I don't have to do much besides make sure I give my face a good wash and watch what I drink. The best beauty advice I’ve received from anyone is to limit my soda intake. When I do drink soda, I like to go with Pineapple Fanta. That's my girl.
