What would you do if you wanted a solo pic with someone but only got a group photo?

For Liu Yifei, it seems like the solution would be: just crop the other person out.

Recently, the 39-year-old Chinese superstar attended the Bulgari Eclettica High Jewelry Gala Dinner in Shanghai as the Italian luxury fashion house’s Global Brand Ambassador.

Naturally, the Mulan star took to Instagram to share photos from the event. But what she was not expecting was to draw flak for one particular photo, which showed her standing next to Bulgari’s CEO, Laura Burdese.

Turns out, some netizens discovered that the photo actually included a third person: Vietnamese actress Ho Ngoc Ha.

In the uncropped version of the same photo shared on Ngoc Ha’s social media, it appeared that the 41-year-old actress was actually standing on the other side of Laura.

In response, many netizens flooded Yifei’s Instagram comments with criticism in Vietnamese and English, condemning the move and saying it was disrespectful to Ngoc Ha.

Some even accused Yifei of being “insecure” and “lacking professionalism.”

Reports also claimed that Ngoc Ha had previously publicly praised Yifei, saying that she was “very beautiful in person and super cute,” making Yifei’s decision to crop her out of the photo all the more surprising and controversial.

Following the backlash, Yifei swiftly deleted the photo, though it continued to circulate online.

Many of Yifei’s fans, however, came to her defense, arguing that she has the right to choose what content she posts on her personal social media accounts.
