Liverpool have been urged to sign Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu by Genks sporting director.Dimitri de Conde believes that FSG could do with funding a little something extra in attack, and thinks Onuachu is the player."Did you see Liverpool against Chelsea? Liverpool have the best strikers, but none with the same profile as Onuachu, de Conde told Belgian outlet Het Belang van Limburg (reported via the Mirror)."He would have scored against 10 men. I'm not saying that Paul would play 90 minutes every week in Liverpool, but a club like that could really use him."Onuachus statistics are certainly impressive over the past several years. The Nigerian rose through the youth ranks at Norwegian side FC Midtjylland, and made his debut for the club in the 2012-13 campaign. While he was acquired slightly before the transformative takeover, Liverpool's recruiters may have their interest piqued by the fact the striker was entrusted with leading the line for a progressive, analytics-based side like Midtjylland. With the exception of a single spell on loan with Danish side Vejle, Onuachu spent the majority of the 2010s at the side owned by Brentford owner Matthew Benham, where he scored 74 goals in all competitions. FSG share Benham's love of data. The forward's form won him a move to Genk in Belgium in the summer of 2019, and whilst his first season in the Belgian Pro League wasnt that spectacular (only nine league goals in 22 games), he more than made up for it in his second campaign, as he smashed in an incredible 33 league goals in 38 games for a team that only managed to finish fourth.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated ArticlesNow 27 years old, Onuachus contract with Genk runs for a further three seasons, but its likely that should Liverpool come knocking, it wouldnt take much for an agreement to be found between the Belgian club and FSG.But should Liverpool be interested in him?A mixture of physical strength and pace, Onuachu would unquestionably bring a new level of physicality to Liverpools attack. This is an area where The Reds currently lack: a forward who can attack the ball aerially.Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mané and Diogo Jota arent the tallest of individuals, and it could be argued that Liverpool dont make the most of Trent Alexander-Arnolds superb crossing ability. Jota in particular boasts an aerial threat disproportionate to his size, but he's still far from a typical target man.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated ArticlesMoreover, Onuachu is adept as holding the ball up and using his tall frame as a shield. This is another element he could bring to Liverpool, with Salah, Mané and Jota all perhaps better at running in behind the last line of defenders.Onuachu would undoubtedly add new elements to Liverpools attack, but he possesses some of the same characteristics as Divock Origi, who is already at the club, but isnt being utilised by Jürgen Klopp. As de Conde rightly illustrated, Onuachu wouldnt play every game for Liverpool, it could be debated that he would be unlikely get many games at all. Furthermore, its also likely that this is just de Conde attempting to drive up interest in one of his players in an attempt to ignite a bidding war, and rightly so, considering the strikers numbers last season. If the price was right, then he might be one to consider for Liverpool, but with finances hamstrung at the moment, FSG need to be wise with every penny spent, and the Nigerian striker is untested at a sufficiently high level to warrant investing big sums of money.Read MoreRelated ArticlesRead MoreRelated Articles
