PETALING JAYA: Lion City Sailors led by Anderson Lopes defeated Selangor 4-2 in the AFC Champions League Two (ACL2) on Wednesday (Oct 1).
At the Bishan Stadium in Singapore, forward Lopes from Brazil struck in just seven minutes, to put the Red Giants in the lead and followed up quickly by doubling up the lead five minutes later.
Still in search of their first win in the league, Selangor’s effort to mount a comeback was halted in the 31st minute when the match was stopped due to lightning.
After a delay of over an hour, the match was resumed, and Selangor striker Chrigor Moraes converted a penalty in the 37th minute to put his side back into the match.
But it did not take too long before Lopes fired another goal to complete his hat-trick in the added time of the first half.
Not long after coming back on pitch in the second half, Lopes made it four for himself and his team in the 54th minute.
Faisal Halim then scored Selangor’s second goal in the 73rd minute, but that was as far as they went.
Selangor sit at the bottom of Group G with no points after two matches, while the Sailors have four points.
The Red Giants will play their next match against Indonesia’s Persib Bandung on Oct 23.
