A bus driver from Malaysia has come under fire after he was seen multi-tasking while driving from Kuala Lumpur to Penang. He was caught using his phone during the hours-long ride, and no, he wasn't using his phone for Google Maps.

The bus driver was playing games on his phone. Yes, while driving. 

A Chinese tourist was on board the bus when she caught the driver gaming on his smartphone while on the road. Shocked by his behaviour, the tourist filmed a video of the driver, which was then sent to Malaysian newscaster, Tan Chia Yong.

“A viewer sent this video to me. This was taken by her friend from China on the evening of June 22, while she was on a long-distance bus from Kuala Lumpur to Butterworth, Penang," Chia Yong later shared the clip on his Facebook page. A bus journey between KL and Penang typically takes about four to five hours.

"The driver in the video was playing games on his phone while driving! ‘Are Malaysian drivers all like this?’ she asked.

“I gasped when I saw [his actions] — of course that’s not the case! He is a black sheep, and must be found! His way of operating the bus is really terrifying!”

Netizens were equally appalled by the driver’s reckless behaviour, with many saying he deserved to be called out, and that he should have his license suspended.

Others have also shared about similar experiences. One individual even revealed that passengers who were brave enough to confront the drivers would more often than not get scolded by them.

“Passengers are required to fasten their seatbelts, but what’s the point if drivers are not kept in check? It’s as though the seatbelts are enough to keep us safe when accidents do happen,” ranted one netizen.

Another also deemed the driver’s behaviour ridiculous, saying: “He should be keeping his eyes on the roads if so many lives are in his hands.”

Some people also suggested practical solutions to the issue, such as installing cameras at the driver’s seat, and implementing harsh penalties for drivers who use their phones while driving.

Here’s the bottom line — it doesn’t matter if you’re driving a bus, a car, or any other type of vehicle. Using phones while driving will always be a big no-no.
