KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) yesterday foiled an attempt in Bukit Kayu Hitam to smuggle in 200kg of galangal.
The agency said the galangal, worth RM3,200, was discovered during a container inspection at 9.40pm.
The inspection involved more than 44,000kg of agricultural produce.
"Checks found that 200kg of galangal did not have the 3P Marketing Certification from the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority. The galangal was seized for further action.

"Importing any agricultural product without proper certification or permits is an offence under Section 11(1) of the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011," MCBA said.
The agency said it was committed to tightening control at all border entry points to ensure biosecurity and to combat smuggling, which can threaten the nation's agriculture industry and food security.
