MICCI calls for lower costs, less business uncertainty

KUALA LUMPUR: While businesses can plan for known costs, the element of uncertainty is far harder to manage, says Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) president Christina Tee.

In a statement, MICCI urged the government to use Budget 2027 to reduce the cost and uncertainty of doing business, as companies contend with rising compliance, utility and operating expenses, tighter cash flow and greater complexity arising from the expanded sales and service tax (SST).

“Clear timelines, reasons for decisions and prompt settlement of money already due are basic conditions for an efficient business environment. Budget 2027 should turn these into practical, measurable standards,” said Tee.

MICCI noted the expanded SST may increase compliance complexity and create cascading effects across supply chains.

It urged the government to consider reintroducing the goods and services tax.
