MRSM Balik Pulau's historic rugby win earns nationwide holiday for MRSMs

KUALA LUMPUR: Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) boarding schools nationwide will observe a holiday tomorrow (July 28) as a mark of appreciation for MRSM Balik Pulau's triumph in the 2025 Super Schools Rugby Championship today.

The announcement was made by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki via a social media post tonight, in celebration of the team's outstanding achievement, which he described as an honour to the institution.

"MRSMs nationwide will observe a holiday tomorrow (July 28, 2025) in conjunction with MRSM Balik Pulau's victory in the 2025 Super Schools Rugby Championship.

"Congratulations to the MRSM BP Cougars," he said.

The BP Cougars made history by becoming the first MRSM team to win the Super Schools Rugby Championship, edging out Victoria Institution (VI) 14-13 in a thrilling grand final held at the Putrajaya Equestrian Park.

Meanwhile, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar also extended his congratulations in a Facebook post, applauding the team's hard-fought win.

"What made the victory even sweeter was defeating the formidable Victoria Institution in a fiercely contested final earlier this evening.

"After 10 years of participating in the tournament, the Cougars have finally clinched the prestigious title.

"Well done MRSM Balik Pulau for continuing to bring pride to your school and Mara," he said.
