Malaysia says it won’t retaliate against Trump’s tariffs

Malaysia’s Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI) says it is ruling out retaliatory tariffs, as the country is evaluating measures to address the 10% tariff hikes announced by the United States.
The newly established National Geoeconomic Command Centre (NGCC), chaired by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, will assess the economic impact and develop strategies to maintain competitiveness.
With a US$24.8 billion trade surplus with the US in 2024, Malaysia is also seeking alternative export markets through the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) and Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
