Man arrested after punching wife for being late to answer door

TAWAU: A man was arrested for assaulting his wife after she was late to open the door of their rented room in Jalan Dunlop here recently.
In the incident, which occurred around midnight, the foreign suspect in his 30s allegedly punched his wife, who is in her 50s, on the left arm, causing pain and bruising.
The victim later lodged a police report.
Tawau deputy police chief Superintendent Champin Piuh said a team from the district Criminal Investigation Department arrested the suspect the next day at 1.50pm by the roadside in the town centre.

"The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code, Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63," he said in a statement today.
He added that domestic violence is a grave offence and police will not compromise with anyone committing such acts.
He also advised couples to resolve disputes respectfully without resorting to violence, and urged the public to report domestic abuse cases to enable swift action.
