SINGAPORE - Mandai Wildlife Group group chief executive officer Mike Barclay will be retiring on Oct 31 , after helming the organisation for a decade .
He will be succeeded by Mr Bennett Neo, who will formally assume the position on Oct 1 , the group announced in a statement on July 21.
Mr Neo will be appointed group CEO designate from Sept 1 , with Mr Barclay staying on as adviser until Oct 31 .
Mandai Wildlife Group chairman Piyush Gupta thanked Mr Barclay for his steadfast leadership and contributions over the past decade.
He said that Mr Barclay not only “fostered a values-driven and guest-centric culture internally, he also strengthened partnerships across the conservation and zoological communities”.
He added: “His consistent focus on people and purpose has had a strong impact on the Mandai family. Mike’s legacy is reflected not just in the physical transformation of the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, but in the stronger and more mission-focused organisation he helped to shape.”
Mr Neo has over 30 years of regional and international experience spanning the energy, offshore marine, logistics, and fast-moving consumer goods sectors across Asia, Europe and the United States, the statement said.
Most recently, he served as group chief operating officer at Sembcorp Industries.
Mr Gupta also welcomed Mr Neo, saying that his “deep experience aligns with our next phase of growth, innovation, and service to both communities and the planet”.

The wild animals should be left living independently of people in natural conditions and not confined in enclosed restricted spaces. Born free and not living in captivity.

Yet another PAP parachute donkey. Bennett Neo’s appointment does seem unconventional for a role involving conservation, animal welfare, and eco-tourism, given his background in logistics, offshore marine, and consumer goods. Many would reasonably expect someone with environmental, zoological, or wildlife park management experience. where leadership roles are filled through political networks or elite circles ) rather than through sectoral expertise !
