SIBU (Aug 6): Sibu Archery Association (Pemasa Sibu) collected five gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the recent 24th Sarawak Open Archery Championship held in Kuching.

Melvin Tieh picked up two golds to emerge as a rising star. He nailed the men’s recurve and combined with Isaac Ting and Louis Wong to top the men’s team recurve.

The other golds were contributed by Lydwina Tiong Xin Ning (Girl’s Under-12),  Mohd Izzudin Iskandar (Boy’s U12) and Nurul Ain Nasuha Iskandar (Girl’s U15).

The Sibu trio of Konny Wong, Sabrina Chin and Nurul Ain took the silver medal in the women’s recurve (team). Nurul Ain collected her third medal as runner-up in the women’s recurve elimination round.

The two bronze medallists were Sabrina  Chin (recurve women) and Jason Wong Li Chai (Boy’s U12).

Pemasa Sibu chief coach Eric Tiong said the overall performance was within expectations but conceded that some in the squad especially the U15 boys need improvement.

Melvin, Konny, Sabrina and Nurul are the four from Sibu selected to represent Sarawak in the Borneo Games to be held in Kuching from Sept 24-28.

Meanwhile, Pemasa Sibu is inviting those interested to train at the RH archery field at Jalan Upper Lanang. The Pemasa Sibu centre has been sanctioned as a training centre by the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) since 2018.
