Meta Platforms Inc. has signed a multi-year contract worth more than US$100 million to use technology from Black Forest Labs, a German AI image startup.

Meta will commit US$35 million to Black Forest Labs in the first year and US$105 million in the second year, according to a person familiar with the matter.

Black Forest Labs, founded a year ago by several computer scientists involved in Stable Diffusion, develops AI tools for image and video generation.

Last year, xAI’s Grok chatbot leaned on Black Forest Labs to roll out an image generation feature.

Black Forest Labs has also signed partnerships with Adobe, Canva, and Snap, bringing total contract value to around US$300 million, the source said.

The startup was generating US$96.3 million in annual recurring revenue as of August and projects ARR will climb to US$300 million in fiscal 2026, according to the person.
