Michelle Obama is doing life her way!

The former first lady and husband Barack Obama have been plagued with divorce rumors all year long, but the couple is holding firm that they are still together and going strong. Her girls’ trip to Mallorca, Spain this week with daughters, Malia, and Sasha, didn’t stop the Daily Mail from questioning their marital status, but it seems that the media outlet is missing the point. Michelle is living her best life after exiting politics.

The three women looked relaxed as they enjoyed their summer vacation by the coast, dining at an outdoor cafe with James Costos, former U.S. ambassador to Spain, and his partner, Michael Smith, the Obamas’ interior designer. (You can see the photos here.) The fact that her husband wasn’t in attendance shouldn’t fuel the breakup rumors though, it’s more of an indication as to where Michelle is in this season of life.

Nobody understands the situation more than Barack Obama who spoke at Hamilton College on April 3 and shared what he wants to give his wife in their post-White House era.

“I was in a deep deficit with my wife,” Barack Obama said, via The Daily Beast. “So, I have been trying to dig myself out of that hole by doing occasionally fun things.” Michelle had put her life on hold for her husband’s political ambitions and now it’s time to let Michelle be Michelle.

She’s pursuing her own interests outside of her marriage and living a life that isn’t dictated by the political arena. And who could blame her?

Even though she skipped Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Donald Trump’s 2025 inauguration, it had nothing to do with her marriage — Michelle is just done playing by the rules created by old-school political circles.

Fans only need to look at her June 15 Instagram postto her husband in honor of Father’s Day to know that she and Barack Obama are solid.

“I love looking back at photos like this of when our girls were younger. @BarackObama has always been there for us no matter what — even when it felt like the weight of the world was on his shoulders,” she gushed. “We’ve always been so grateful. To Barack and all the dads and father-figures celebrating today, Happy Father’s Day! ❤️”

So, people need to stop expecting Michelle to always be with her husband or showing up at official events because the first lady role has always been an unofficial position. She wasn’t elected into office and she wasn’t paid for her duties — Michelle voluntarily served for eight years in the White House, and now it’s time for her to shine.
