SHAH ALAM: A female suspect in the murder of 20-year-old Maniishapriet Kaur Akhara had given her boyfriend an access card and keys to the hostel unit prior to the murder.

The suspect is Maniishapriet’s housemate in the unit in Cyberjaya and her 20-year-old boyfriend is the main suspect, says Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

The main suspect had apparent­ly stayed overnight at the unit previously, said the Selangor police chief.

“On the night of the incident, he wanted to stay there again while his girlfriend had gone back to her hometown. However, it is believed he had ill intentions towards the victim that led him to hit her with an object that led to her death,” he told a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters yesterday.

“The pathology report did not indicate any signs of rape.

“We are still investigating further to find any proof of sexual assault and investigating the mo­tive behind the murder,” he said.

Comm Hussein said the man had stolen several of the victim’s belongings, including her ATM card, laptop, mobile phone as well as cash.

“He also withdrew RM200 using her ATM card,” he added.

He said police would complete investigations soon and refer it to the deputy public prosecutor.

A man and three women, aged 19 and 20, were nabbed in Johor Baru and Gemencheh in Negri Sembilan on June 26 and 27 in connection with the murder.

Maniishapriet, a Bachelor of Phy­siotherapy student from Kuching, Sarawak, was found unconscious in the hostel unit with injuries on her body by her friend at about 10am on June 24.

She was staying with five other students but the others had retur­ned home for the holidays on June 21, leaving her alone at the hostel as she was scheduled to sit for an upcoming examination.

A post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head.
