A music producer and sound engineer died on a diving trip while on tour in Australia.
Suffolk-born Karl Bareham, 37, died on September 24 2019, an inquest in Ipswich heard on Tuesday.
He had been living in Canada and was on tour in Australia with Canadian musician Dallas Green, who records under the name City and Colour and is a vocalist and guitarist in the post-hardcore band Alexisonfire.
Christopher Long, assistant Suffolk coroner, said: "It's understood that Mr Bareham was on a diving trip with friends when an incident took place.
"The diving equipment has been seized by Australian police and I understand that an investigation is ongoing.
"Criminal proceedings are being considered by SafeWork New South Wales (the state's workplace health and safety regulator) in Australia.
"It's therefore requested that the inquest is formally suspended until March 11 2021."
Mr Long said that, having considered the circumstances, it was "appropriate" to do so.
A statement on the City and Colour Facebook page, in September 2019, said: "Our lives are forever changed.
