The insensitive remark about elderly individuals being unable to stand on the MRT, yet able to queue for lottery games, has sparked a heated debate. It’s crucial to remember that some elderly individuals may have health issues that are not immediately apparent. As a society, we should extend empathy and respect to everyone, regardless of age or ability.

It’s disheartening to read comments that trivialize the struggles of the elderly, including those with mobility challenges or health concerns. Instead of criticizing, we should consider the fact that falling down for the elderly can lead to severe consequences, such as heart attacks, as shared by some commenters.

Furthermore, it’s essential to acknowledge that some elderly individuals maintain their physical fitness and independence. However, this does not negate the fact that others may require assistance or a seat on public transportation due to various health issues.

As a society, we should cultivate compassion and understanding towards the elderly, who have contributed significantly to our communities. By fostering a supportive environment, we can help ensure that everyone, regardless of age, can navigate public spaces safely and comfortably.

In conclusion, while the initial remark was insensitive, the subsequent conversation highlights the importance of empathy and understanding towards the elderly, who may face various challenges in their daily lives. Let’s strive to create a more inclusive and supportive society for all.

Here are what netizens think:

For 4D and TOTO, they Q for hope. But on MRT and buses, they are on a journey to the light at the end of their twilight tunnel.

There are those who don’t sit in public transport and offer seats for pregnant and physically challenged also. Instead of targeting, do also appreciate those who shine out…

Ya right everybody grow old..but when so many seat its available why must they get annoy when we seat at priority seat.

Just remember you post this in facebook maybe 40 years later.

Please have some empathy. You will also grow old someday or maybe am old now. Whatever it is, please don’t make this a big issue. If you refused to give up your seat, so be it. Nobody force you. Live and let live. You will never know what’s next.

This kind of argument won’t exist if self righteous people stopped forcing younger people to give up their seats, be it face to face or online shaming. Mind your own business. If a young man gives up his seat, good for him. If he doesn’t, let him be. Why pressure him or shame him?

I agree but the diff here is – the Bus or MRT is moving and their legs are weak mah —- while Queuing for 4D, Toto, Collecting Goody Bags is safer for them. Old People fall down can die easily it happened to a few of my neighbours already … so let’s have some Compassion & Understanding here – what have we to lose ? If these Old people cannot Q for 4D Toto and cannot take MRT or Bus – it means they are Disabled, Can die soon Anytime
